It was 1978 when Tapan first started to understand the real meaning of tea and by 1997, he decided to open up his own store to amplify his love for tea. Each tea has its own uniqueness. The fun fact is, even if the location or tea garden is the same, this season’s tea will be unquestionably different from last season’s tea. But the colour, the fragrance, the aroma, each tea’s own uniqueness, predicting which tea will serve best when mixed with another – every one of these things attracted Tapan like a bee to a flower! And he absolutely loved it!

The store did not have a strong start. Born in a not-so-rich family, acquiring capital was always a major hindrance for him. But with each passing day, through his willpower and dedication, he elevated the store to new heights of success. In 2008, when the world was going through the Great Recession, his store was so busy that the customers had to wait in long queues to get their favourite tea! That’s how famous his tea was in the locality!

However, the happiness did not last long. With the growth of online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart which made customer’s life so easy, the local stores started getting disrupted one by one.
And in 2012, tragedy hit the store like wildfire. His nephew Partha, who was the backbone of the company, passed away at the age of 32. And with him, the business was going down with each passing day. Mr. Tapan’s network was strong and so, he somehow managed to hold on to the string.

Well, it took time to get back in form and as the store was gradually getting a strong momentum, another tragic incident happened and this time, the whole world was affected. It was on 24th March 2020 that India declared a nationwide lockdown because of Covid-19 and the business’s revenue hit rock bottom.

In 2022, Mr. Bachar, the son of Mr. Tapan, decided to give his input into the business and started selling online through various platforms. The net orders received in the entire first month were only 1.
But as they say, true quality can never stay hidden for long. The quality of Tapan’s Tea Co. soon became a major hit and started getting superb ratings and reviews. People started talking about us and orders started growing exponentially and within 4 months, new staff were hired to keep up with the pace! The quality was so good that through word of mouth, we got out first export order and shipped our tea to the USA.

It’s been almost three decades since we started, and it’s been a roller-coaster journey for us. And with growing technology, now we have decided to serve globally our exquisite blend of freshness and love through our very own website.
